Slum Children Around the World Support Eachother

“After the earthquake hit Haiti on 12 January 2010, some street-children from the slums in Nairobi, Kenya, felt they should do something to support children in Haiti, now living in conditions as bad as or worse than their own. The Wafalme Kidz, hailing from the streets of East Nairobi, made up a song to bring a message of hope to the children in Haiti and a DVD was produced with Sarakasi Trust, Slum Talent Trust and Cultural Video Foundation. The United Nations Office at Nairobi, the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and UNICEF (all from Nairobi) joined hands to make this DVD possible, to make sure we do not forget about Haiti. All funds generated with this initiative will be credited to UNICEF and be used for reconstruction projects directly benefitting children in Haiti.” :: The United Nations

Vandana Shiva is an intense woman with intense truths. All three parts of this interview are powerful and enlightening. This woman is a wonderful beginning for more research into the modern systemic approaches to mass agriculture and the food we eat every day. I can’t say I understand everything about her message, but I am ignited by her passion and fire on exposing truths about the food we consume and the journey it goes through to reach our bellies.

I’ve vowed to stay patient through this re-education process, keeping myself open to learn and to know what people are thinking about these days. Former US President Clinton :: Plant-based, Vegan Diet

I LOVED seeing this pop-up in my Facebook news feed this morning – Bill Clinton wanted to lose some weight and get healthier after his heart surgery so he did some research and discovered the benefits of following a plant-based diet. That means no meat, no dairy — beans, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes. I’ve always wondered why so many of our world leaders such as the presidents of countries and corporations are so out of shape. I know that when I am not at the top of my physical health, I feel like crap, I act like crap, and I make crappy decisions. It worries me to see these very important people of huge power and influence live in such unhealthy bodies and minds. Bill Clinton is really paving the way for the rest of our worlds leaders – taking responsibility for his own health and wellness. You rock Billy, seriously.

A very enlightening video on the great circle of consumerism – I like to watch this every few months as a way to inspire myself to keep my life streamlined of physical, material, possessions. Since I am on the move so much, living in a new place every few months – keeping my stuff simple and basic allows me to enjoy each new place with less baggage – literally and figuratively. As I started traveling with fewer and fewer things, I began to really enjoy and value the few things that I do have. It immediately increased the joy in my life, the joy I get from my own stuff!
